Official: Finland may stop truck traffic with Russia Saturday

HELSINKI, Nov 16 (PRIME) -- The cargo traffic between Finland and Russia will virtually stop on Saturday because of a decision of the Finnish government to close the border entry points until February 18, head of the Statistics Department of Finland's Customs Olli-Pekka Penttila saiThursday.

"Trucks came from Vaalimaa, Nuijamaa, Imatra and Niirala at the eastern border in October… but there was no movement of cargo in different places on the eastern border. Thus, truck traffic will virtually stop on the eastern land border on November 18," Penttila said.

The official said that the railway entry point from Russia of Vainikkala will continue to allow cargo trains to pass.
